About the Artist (Français)
Born in Lozinghem (Pas de Calais) in 1926, Rodolphe Planquette started drawing and painting with oils and pastels in his very first years.
From 1942 to 1945 he studied theatre and cinema with Rene SIMON in Paris.
In 1946 he completed Military service as a parachutist in the army in Morocco, then studied at the Officer Reserve School in Algeria. Finally in 1947 he left the French Army and returned to France.
From 1948 to 1959 Rodolphe had several exhibitions with his teacher Gaston COPPENS.
In 1960 he set up his own interior design firm but painting remained his greatest passion.
He worked as an interior designer for sixteen years until he met Katia GRANOFF who encouraged him to devote himself completely to painting.
At the end of 1976 Rodolphe decided to close his firm and start a new fulltime painting career.
Immediately people saw in Planquette's pastels not only a Post Impressionist artist but also someone who had been very influenced by Monet.
In 1977 the French painter Yves BRAYER, the Marmottan Museum curator, advised him to exhibit in Paris.
For Rodolphe Planquette this was the beginning of a dynamic and great painting career with countless exhibitions that took him throughout France, Switzerland, USA, Japan and now in Canada.
